How do you go about renting an apartment when you have a bad credit rating?

Look for an apartment complex managed by an individual instead of a corporation or property manager. Now, you can talk directly with the decision maker. Have a good explanation of how things got out of control and what you have done to ensure it wont happen again. DO NOT BLAME the EX...You can use medical, inexperience with credit, job layoff, etc...

Offer additional deposit to encourage them to take the extra risk and offer your pay-stub, written previous landlord reference and make sure you have any credit statements of things that used to be past due that are now current to offer as %26quot;working on it%26quot;. Wouldn%26#039;t hurt to bring a letter from your employer too that states %26quot;probability of continued employment is excellent%26quot; and a few words about you being a great asset and willing to work at any projects that need doing...

Good luck

Luckily I personally have not yet had this problem. I would say that an individual renting his or her small house or building would probably be a better bet that an apartment complex. My mother had a building she rented out and never did credit checks. I%26#039;m sure complexes are more likely to do checks and also be less helpful. I would also say that a large deposit would probably help you along the way if that is at all possible for you. Good luck to you, I am sure that you will be able to find somewhere that will be a good place that you like. I know many people who rent with very bad credit so I know it is possible. Also, obviously I do not know your situation, but if you are financially strapped there are some very nice appartments that go by your income for lower income families and singles and I%26#039;m sure they have run across people with bad credit. God bless.

If you have the means, you could offer more on the deposit and/or you could have someone co-sign the rental application stated they would be financially responsible in the event you were unable to meet the financial obligations associated with renting the apartment.

Good luck!
